Rütli 17 May 2014

20140517 113330 This was a journey to heart of the Swiss myth and naturally it involved taking the train. 20140517 113351 Nico and Bri came with us on "Accompanied AG" tickets, so we had to go someplace distant and the Rütli seemed just the thing. 20140517 113441 I was discovering new features of my phone's camera 20140517 123829 such as yelling at in German to have it take a picture, in this case of the bus that brought us from Stans, near Lucerne, to the top of the funicular that comes up here from lake level.
20140517 124638 The Rütil is the little green meadow down on the edge of the lake. 20140517 130849 The meadow was 400 m below the bus stop but the paths were well maintained 20140517 131640 The flotilla that patrols the Lake of the Four Cantons 20140517 131744 A map of the Rütli - it was not large
20140517 131758 Looking across the lake to Grosse Mythen, which though it resembles Grand Teton, is just a foothill at 1800 m. 20140517 131937 This is where the first mutual protection pact was formulated back in 1291 20140517 132020 The heart of the myth is right here 20140517 132612 We quickly adjourned to the Picknickplatz
20140517 141920 and afterward headed to the dock 20140517 142159 where we educated ourselves about the place 20140517 142850 made notes, 20140517 142856 laughed a bit,
20140517 142917 looked across the lake to fanyc houses and the Mythen peaks, 20140517 142935 looked across the lake to the Fronalpstock 20140517 143415 and waited for a boat to take us across the lake to Brunnen 20140517 144102 Looking up lake from the boat with the Rütli on the right
20140517 155424 Back in Lucerne where we got on a clean train back to Romandie!
